Feller buncher D450: a disc head designed for efficiency

Modern forestry operations rely on high-performance equipment tailored to the terrain’s demands. The D450 (18”) disc felling head is specially designed for biomass harvesting, combining robustness, speed, and easy maintenance. Its optimized design ensures exceptional cutting speed and quality, reducing intervention time and maximizing productivity in the field.

A simple and efficient design for optimized maintenance

One of the D450's key strengths is its simple, functional design, allowing for quick and efficient maintenance. Unlike more complex equipment that requires lengthy and costly servicing, this forestry disc head is engineered for ease of maintenance to maximize its lifespan.

Its optimized weight of 1,200 kg provides excellent maneuverability while ensuring optimal resistance to the demanding conditions of forestry work. It is compatible with machines from 14 tonnes (starting at 75 hp) up to 20 tonnes, offering great flexibility.

A hydraulic system tailored for excavators to meet forestry demands

To operate effectively, the D450 requires only 95/100 L/min and three hydraulic lines + drainage:

  • A high-flow line to power the cutting disc
  • A low-flow line to control head rotation and the accumulation/grapple system
  • A drain line to ensure effective cooling of the head’s hydraulic motor

This setup guarantees optimal and continuous power supply to the cutting head, ensuring smooth, uninterrupted operation without oil overload slowing down excavator movements in the forest. The head can remain powered with almost no impact on excavator speed. No hydraulic modifications to the excavator are required, preserving the manufacturer’s warranty and the integrity of the hydraulic cooling system.

Standard equipment for fast and precise cutting

The D450 comes with several features to optimize cutting and tree handling:

  • 12 sharpenable knives without disassembly, reducing downtime and extending tool life—ensuring consistent cutting efficiency throughout the blade set’s life
  • Operates with only 95/100 L/min, optimizing hydraulic energy use and total production speed
  • Grapple function makes it easier to recover wood from the ground and manage logs after felling
  • Accumulator finger, ensuring secure grip on logs for more efficient handling (available with rotation or with an additional line on the carrier), enabling continuous cutting with no productivity loss

Optional:

  • 360° continuous rotation with a high-flow, high-pressure swivel joint specifically designed for the tool, with only 1 bar pressure drop. Three hydraulic functions are CAN-bus controlled with a single hydraulic line from the excavator: direct control of the grapples, then rotation/accumulation.

An efficient solution for wood harvesting

The D450 disc felling head is an essential tool for forestry professionals looking to optimize biomass harvesting. Its robust build, fast cutting speed, and advanced features make it a strategic investment for boosting productivity and reducing operational costs.

Designed for intensive use with 14–16 tonne excavators (up to 20 t), the D450 ensures lasting performance and effective handling of felled trees. An ideal choice for forest operators seeking to combine efficiency, profitability, and adaptability to field conditions.

This innovative product requires only 100 L/min to operate optimally, without any hydraulic modification or additional cooler. The machine retains 90% of its movement fluidity and speed even while the tool is in operation.
